Our Mission

The Hudson Film Festival is produced by the Hudson Valley Film Institute, a collective that plans to provide educational opportunities for burgeoning artists in the region as well as year-long community-based film and arts programming.

This is year one of the Hudson Film Festival. Our inaugural programming will focus on works by underrepresented local, global, female, BIPOC, LGBTQ+ talent and filmmakers, reflecting the diversity of the region.

Our 2023 film festival is our first event in the area. The Hudson Valley Film Institute plans to connect participants to the local and global film-making community through guest speakers, panels, events, digital content, internships, apprenticeships and mentorship opportunities.

John Maybee

John Maybee is a Hudson-Valley-based communications executive, marketing and publicity consultant, and producer. His varied career spans many sectors of the entertainment industry, including film, television, live music, theatre, artist representation, festivals and special events. He is an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, arts education, and community-driven arts experiences.

Sonia Marcela Freeman

Sonia Marcela Freeman is a Los-Angeles-based film publicist, artist and organic farmer. Her love of cinema fueled her 20+ years in film marketing, publicity and awards campaigning. Motivated by her desire to democratize film and arts education, it is her mission to encourage and provide opportunities for future generations of diverse filmmakers and artists.

Sarah Peters

Sarah Peters is a local writer/producer residing in the Hudson Valley. With over 20 years of studio film,marketing, and immersive event experience, she is passionate about championing diverse storytelling.
